Perl is a love language

March 4th, 2007 · 7 Comments

Yesterday, I discovered my blog was broken. Entering my password only gave me error messages. Ted spent his Saturday morning researching options and hacking perl in a desperate attempt to rescue my blog. Hours later, as we left for Seattle, aggravated, exasperated and mystified, he reluctantly declared my blog dead.

I think my husband was more upset than I was over my broken blog. My main concern was with retaining my eponymous url. If my blog was dead, it might be time to start a new one. Anything other than Movable Type certainly appeals to me, I confess. I didn’t want julieleung.com forever associated with a site I could not change or move.

Ted though came home last night and began working on my blog again. I went to bed earlier than he did, as I often do. When I woke up, I found an email from him dated in the early morning hours, announcing that he had rescued my blog. Hurray!

Jenny described the love languages in her family. I think that Ted wanted to fix my blog, not because it was a challenge to his skills or perhaps even insult to his pride, but because he loves me. He’s always supported and encouraged me in all my blogging endeavors and he understands how much of myself I’ve poured into that Movable Type installation on our server. Ted worked and hacked, eventually finding a solution that would allow me to use my blog again, out of his heart and passion for me. Perl is a love language.

If you had any idea of how much I dislike Perl, you’d be doubly impressed 😉

Hmm, so how secure is your blog then? Would anyone with the requisite Perl skills have been able to do what Ted did? Anyone in love? Anyone with the requisite Perl skills and in love?

THIS is why I love your blog! Well, this and the badly painted frog-rock which really does look like a manatee-prostitute.

I like the fact that I will never click over to here and see “Ted is an stupid AWFUL ugly man!” No surprises like “I’m divorcing him because he’s a selfish lunatic”. Just lots and lots of “Ted is wonderful!”

Yeah, I’m sure Ted has horrid days. And he must have some small insignificant flaws, because no one is perfect. And wouldn’t it be boring if he were!?!

BUT, its beyond fabulous that he likes his wife enough to deal with perl and its wildly charming that she appreciates it! Yay for everyone! Its just like a happy-ending to a fairy-tale except that I didn’t have to read the dramatic-bad-time in the middle of the story 🙂

What a fun treat! I finally emerged from my tortoise shell to read your blog and found a link to my own:) I am relieved Ted was able to solve the problem – it seems he is too. As I read, I could see Paul slaving away to save me just the same… We are blessed. Hope you are well. Thanks for the call many weeks ago… thanks for continuing in friendship though I do not feel as though I deserve it:)

Cool! Yay, Ted! Yay for Julie’s blog being back up! Yay for marriage, yay for love, yay for conquering challenges, yay for not giving up!

Thanks for the reminder that practical things my husband does for me is his love language. I shouldn’t take him for granted.
And Teddy has always been a nice kid!

I haven’t checked on your blog in 2-3 years, but here I am today. What a beautiful post! Oh the crazy wonderful things our programmer-men will do for us because they love our words and our thoughts.

I wish you all the best in your blog jump-start. It’s good to see you again.
