Corny education

As our experiment this year, we are trying to grow corn. This week I spied our first ear when I saw the silk. It surprised – and educated – me. Somehow I thought that ears of corn grew from the top of the stalk, not from the sides.

Country bumpkin is a derogatory term, as if farmer folks don’t know much ’bout nothing. But as a girl who grew up in suburbs and cities I have to say that those country bumpkins probably know more about many areas of life than I do…
