#2! Personally, I don’t like the hair-uncovered ear on # 1. Plus you seem to be posing a bit too much. #2 has a dreamy sense over it which I like. Note for Ted: try to have the focal point on the eyes. AFAICT, it is on the left shoulder somehow. But nothing which can’t be remedied with some sharpening. 🙂

#1 – look them in the eye.

    #1. the direct gaze.

    Both are nice:

#1 if it were for a book / author headshot. #2 for SXSW

    #2
    nicer eyes and facial contour

I think looking right at someone of #1 is necessary for headshot for conference purposes – and love the reflective tone and artful angle of #2. Possible to do a #3 to combine these elements?? Look forward to seeing you at SXSW!

#1 would be my choice. In #2 your face is not in focus. Also, I’d put the camera lens a little higher.

    #2

I like the hair curling around — it looks softer. #2 looks a bit ethereal, but I think that works for you.

Funny what we notice. #1 for me, though I prefer the lighting and visibility of the eyes in #2.

I like #2. It’s a nice expression and kind of artsy.

I love them both, but I would have to vote for #2. Shows where you get your strength. 🙂

I have no particular reason why, but #2 is what I would pick.

Wow, thanks everyone! Helpful and also intriguing responses. Looks like #2 has a few more votes at this point. Maybe I’ll try Evelyn’s suggestion for a #3 sometime…

Belated vote for #1 here. 🙂

#1 – I like to see eye contact

I like the way you are holding your head in #2, but I see you looking at the camera as you are in #1.

So yes…I’m going for photo #3.
