When Did You Fall in Love with Me?

January 26th, 2006 · 39 Comments

I’ve recently heard this song by Chris Rice on the radio (hear it on his MySpace page) and its buoyant happiness and story details carry the jazzy tune. Even the DJ assumed Chris must have a wonderful woman in his life and I did too, until I read this article. Regardless, I think of Ted when I think of this song, and although I don’t usually post song lyrics, I will do it today, in honor of our love, the silliness, joy and fun God has given us in it.

I love you Ted. When did you fall in love with me? I can’t remember. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Chris Rice – When Did You Fall lyrics

From the album Amusing

You’re all smiles and silly conversation

As if this sunny day came just for you

You twist your hair, you smile and you turn your eyes away

C’mon, tell me what’s right with you

Now it dawns on me probably everybody’s talkin’

And there’s something here I’m supposed to realize

‘Cause your secret’s out, and the universe laughs at it’s joke on me

I just caught it in your eyes, it’s a beautiful surprise

Chorus:

When did you fall in love with me?

Was it out of the blue

‘Cause I swear I never knew it

When did you let your heart run free?

Have you been waiting long?

When did you fall in love with me?

When did you fall in love?

Make your way over here, sit down by this fool, and let’s rewind

C’mon, let’s go back and replay all our scenes

You can point out the hints, the clues, the twists and the smiles this time

All the ones that slipped by me

I bet my face is red, and you can hear my heart poundin’

Well I guess it don’t matter now that I realize

‘Cause baby I missed it then, but I can surely see you now

Right there before my eyes

You’re my beautiful surprise

Chorus:

Was it at the coffee shop

Or that morning at the bus stop

When you almost slipped, and I caught your hand

Or the time we built the snowman

The day at the beach, sandy and warm

Or the night with the scary thunderstorm

I never saw the signs

Now we’ve got to make up for lost time

And I can tell now by the way that you’re looking at me

I’d better finish this song so my lips will be free

Have you been waiting long, when did you fall in love

I kept you waiting so long, when did you fall

Have you been waiting long

When did you fall in love with me

When did you fall in love?

    Hi Julie,

I was just listening to this song on the radio yesterday! I love it! Always makes me want to give my hubby a sweet kiss!
    Happy Anniversary!
BTW – thanks for the comments – I always reply to you, but I don’t know if you get them. I’m not very tech-savvy yet!

I was looking all over for the information on this song and wasn’t doing to well. I had only heard it twice before, came home and looked for it. Typed in the chorus and stumbled across your Blog. THANK YOU!

This song reminds me of a guy who was a friend of mine. There was something there, neither of us acted upon it, and we have both grown apart. This song reminds me so much of the times with/around him.

Life moves on, memories do not.

Thanks again for posting the lyrics, otherwise I would still be looking around aimlessly. Haha ๐Ÿ˜›

    Oh man,

JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE POSTING TO THIS BLOG, I IMMEDIATELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG FROM THE MOMENT I FIRST HEARD IT. I stop everything I am doing when it comes on the radio just to listen to it. I searched everywhere on the Internet to find where I could purchase and just did. I am a newly wed too (second time) and I told my husband that I feel that this is our song. We started out as friends and then fell in love.

The responder to Julie is right. This song should be top 10!

THANKS FOR THE LYRICS. I printed them out.

BTW, if anyone is looking to download this song, it is available on Wal-Mart music downloads, but FYI, I’m not sure if it will play on an iPod if you get it from there. (I may be wrong, but I think I read that)
    cheers! ~Denise

I’m just glad to know who the artist is.

When you meet the right person, you both wanted to be together…all the time. you know you like each other. Then you start asking yourself…are you in love? if you are, you wish the other person is in love with you too. Then you search on each others eyes…when you find it, it does make you fell young and contented. you feel you belong and your life makes sense. Youรƒยฏร‚ยฟร‚ยฝll have someone to hold your hand on your journey to life. This is just the first part of falling in love. When you start having children together, you’ll be falling in love deeper than the first time you’ve felt it. Then you search each others eyes…you’d like to know if your partner feels the same. Then comes the grandchildren, it is another stage of falling in love. ‘Coz now, you know you’ve been here and there and you search on each others eyes again asking “are you in love with me”? As you grow older things will change. You don’t want to ask your partner if she or he is “still” in love with you…you want that feelings to be always fresh and like new…always in love…
This song reminds me of all this feelings. Being playful excited, and young…to that one person you are in love with. This song reminds of “God” of this a wonderful gift He gave me. By the way, I’m married for 26 years with the same person and we have four children and two grandchildren together…

First heard it Saturday when my wife wanted us to go see Chris Rice. She’s always been a fan of Chris. Wonderful musicians and a great and pleasant show.

Thank you for the info! I was just driving home, and heard this song for the first time on the radio. I too thought it might be some James Taylor – deifinitely sweet and smooth ‘good ol’ days’ feel.
It reminds me exactly of what has gone on with my boyfriend and I. I will have to send it to him – I think it will be our song, complete with plenty of memories! Thanks again for making it so easy to find out about it! ๐Ÿ™‚ (I will be sure to buy it and check out the rest of the album.)

This song really gives me that felling of the americans warmest emotions, their way towards love, it is nice to identify how love leaves its own different marks on every culture and society, I’m Italian Venezuelan, the ways are somehow different but all beautiful as much, and even more when you start undertending how love is spreaded with diverse spices.
    Just love it…

  • 30 RS // Oct 25, 2006 at 8:47 am

Heard this for the first time yesterday. What a great song. Reminds me of that great woman who has been a part of my life for a long time now. I was looking for the song and artist and it led me here. Thanks so much.

  • 31 Kristina // Oct 25, 2006 at 5:18 pm

I heard this on the radio on the way to work and it made me think of myself and my love! And then I sent it to him in an e-mail and we were talking about it yesterday and I was like ‘wow, this song always reminds me of us’ and he was like ‘which song’ and as I was about to tell him, he guessed it and said that when he first heard it that’s what he thought of too ๐Ÿ™‚

    I love this song! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer three years ago and underwent two surgeries and a series of chemotherapy, but keeping my spirits high. The other day coming home from the emergency unit, I heard this song and it was the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I play it at least 5 times a day. It has an air of innoncene which brings me back wonderful memories.

I have heard my sisters sing this song so many times. I thought it was stupid. I was wrong. The thing is I had never heard this song ever. One day it came on the radio……. I was in love with this song. It made me want to slow dance. I slipped into a dream. I will never forget it. I would like to know where I could find the CD!
    Thanx.

I work at Ruby Tuesday. I heard this song while being in the midst of a very hectic Saturday lunch rush, and it made everything slow down and feel so much more calm. I was so impressed with its simplicity that i just had to get on here and find it. Couldnt find it anywhere until this blog. Thank you!

I heard this at a store, twice in the same week and had to find out who sang it. I am thrilled that it was Chris Rice. I recently fell for a guy in my class, we are grad students and I am 47. He didn’t feel the same way and it broke my heart. This song reminds me how I need and deserve to be loved. I listen several times a day, it has been healing. Thank you for lifting my spirits.
