When the cat’s away…

November 16th, 2003 · 1 Comment

Ted left early yesterday morning to go to ApacheCon. He’s having fun at the Hackathon today .
A big Hello to blog readers who are there with him in Las Vegas this week:
Have fun with my husband. Hope we can meet each other sometime.

So when the cat’s away, the mice will play and eat lots and lots of cheese.
While Ted’s gone we’ll be filling up on lactose-loaded cuisine. Like last night we ate Clean-Out-The-Fridge French bread pizzas (toppings: sauce, tomatoes, basil, spinach, olives, mushrooms, ham, red pepper, broccoli) And for breakfast with had French toast with MILK.

It’s not as if Ted is a cat and we are mice, as if our relationship is antagonistic, or authoritarian (I found thiis definition at bartleby) but I thought it would be funny to say, and the “mice” fit well with “cheese”. We are eating lots of veggies, bread and cheese while Ted’s away. That’s always a sign that he is gone. The big thing that changes in our lives. Perhaps, it’d be better to say “When the CARNIVORE’S away…”

Yeah, life’s a little off with Ted gone. Our family time isn’t different from the rest of the day that the girls and I spend together. Caring for the kids by myself keeps me pretty busy. Bathtime, usually Ted’s job, took a while last night as I tried to do it by myself, juggling all three in and out of the tub.

The garbage got too full and smelly before I finally took it out this morning. I miss *my* laptop and the digital camera (guess I gotta get some of my own gadgets?!). And, oh, yeah, I miss Ted too 🙂
It gets a bit boring using blogging as our primary means of communication between us – short of a phone call at the end of the day…I look forward to Wednesday already…..not too much fun to be had when the cat’s away: mice can only eat so much cheese…..
