Anita Rowlands posted yesterday links to two perspectives about the HBO documentary Born Rich . I liked especially reading about Synthetic Zero’s samurai heritage :
My father said, when we were watching that part of the film, that mixing power and wealth was dangerous — that’s why the samurai escaped that fate to some extent, because we had power but not wealth.
I went to private schools for ten years – on financial aid! – and so I have a little idea of what it is like to be born rich from glimpses I got of some of my classmates’ lives during my time at those schools.
Reading those two blogs and the film site, and thinking about my own experiences, I begin to wonder what it means to be wealthy. What is wealth? And who in the world really is wealthy? In the bigger picture, who really is born rich?
