Forgot to mention in my post yesterday about local news that the ferry food service did indeed end on December 31. Back in November, I posted about this possibility. Today’s Bainbridge Review has a front page story about the food galleys closure and complicated contract talks (this article is not on-line yet but probably will be soon). Although this doesn’t affect our family much, it is sad to think about those who lost their jobs, and the closure will be a big change for many commuters. Often when we ride the ferry, especially during the early morning runs, the girls and I have a hard time getting a seat in the galley; so many buy their breakfast from the food service. It’s not as if ferry food was a culinary treasure, but it was a part of the culture and community here.
…so if you come visit us, pack a picnic! Or better yet, give us a call and I’ll try to cook you up my best imitation of ferry food, clam chowder and all 😉
