Reading the Seattle Times this morning, I discover how obvious it is that I have
leadership potential : you can see it in my feet….
…and all these years I thought it was called Morton’s foot
(no, my toes are not as extreme as in this photo….)
The other day my husband Ted posted this link in his blog to John Pocaro’s blog , expounding on the book 5 Patterns of Extraordinary Careers . I went to the website and took the test on whether my career will be extraordinary. It was fun responding as a mother to statements such as “My current job fully utilizes my professional strengths and passions” : AGREE! As far as the test went, I scored most strongly in the areas of “benevolent leadership”: “extraordinary success is achieved by making those around you successful”, developing your “subordinates” – of course, isn’t this what mothering is all about, helping our children grow and blossom in every way, even beyond us ?! 🙂

I think it’s just amazing that you’ve found something you’re good at, something that’s important to you, and something that contributes so much to society. Raising kids is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, and while my engagement level is pretty high, I often find it more stressful than joyful.
I’m glad for women like you and my wife. I can’t imagine what things would be like if men raised our world’s children.
