Twelve years ago today it rained

July 21st, 2003 · 3 Comments

Time for bed but as I’m wrapping up the day I’m remembering…. twelve years ago today my husband proposed to me in New Hampshire’s White Mountains beneath a canopy of leaves, protecting us from (romantic!) summer rain. I remember the rock we sat on and of course, the “rock” Ted gave me – a surprise since I thought the ring was still at the jewelers, waiting for a later date. On the drive back to the school where I was a teaching intern, Ted was exhausted but I was elated! I remember the song playing on the car radio (that summer’s ubiquitous hit “Everything I Do”) and the barbecue chicken pizza we picked up for dinner (we only ate half – who had appetite for food?!). Back at the school, we asked my dorm parents to take our picture together; I see it still clearly in my mind: summer clothes and eager smiles, wide-eyed, excited, giddy, giggling, crazy, incredulous: two kids in love.

How could we have imagined twelve years later would find us 3000 miles west with our 3 little girls:
deeper in love and incredibly blessed…

I love you Ted! Ask me again any day …
and I’ll say…
YES!

I love the title, I love the content. Joyful marriages need to be more in the spotlight in my opinion. I am all smiles as I rejoice with you both. And all thankfulness for my own beloved as I eagerly await his return from Arizona where he’s away on business…

How romantic! I almost ruined the day William proposed, but in the end, at sunset, with champagne, an emerald and diamond engagement ring made it to my finger. God is good.
