At least one hour

February 16th, 2004 · 1 Comment

Lisa Williams last night described how she combats Parental Exploding Head Syndrome :

it is absolutely neccessary to have at least one hour per 24 hour period when I am not either a) asleep or b) assailed by children under the age of 3.

PEHS is why I
a) get up early
b) stay up late
c) have the older two girls do “quiet time” while Baby naps
d) all of the above
e) whichever ones of a) b) or c) I can manage that day (these are all difficult at the Baby-Doesn’t-Sleep Stage)

(in case you’re wondering, right now is c)…funny thing is I’ve had a huge headache most of the morning, rare for me, but it seems to be going away with the start of “quiet time” today…)

During school today the kids went outside in the back yard for a “20 minute” recess, enjoying the warmish wind and tromping around with sticks…and I was having such a nice, quiet, productive time inside that it turned into an HOUR and 20 minutes, at which point Jason stuck his head in and said, “We’ve been out here for AGES! Are we supposed to come in now?” So that was a good prodding to get back to literature and spelling and science…but they were well-exercised and refreshed and smiling, and so was I.
