“It’s important to allow people the opportunity to really dream,” Devine said last week, sitting in a conference room at the Pocock Rowing Center on Lake Union. “A lot of places in this world, life is pretty cheap. If you don’t have the opportunity to dream, it’s like you’re not allowed to be alive, like you’re eliminating so much of what makes humans different from, I don’t know, worms and animals.”
