Rain went away and now comes back

Title of article in Saturday’s Seattle Times:
Rain, rain, went far away in our record dry summer

Yes, it did start raining this week (thanks to wink for asking) although not hard and heavy. I’m still waiting for that soaking rain, the kind that keeps you inside staring through the raindrops on the panes. The kind that drenches you when you dance in it.

We felt just a few sprinkles here and there, momentary showers from cloudy skies. Thursday was probably the thickest. We still went outside to kick the soccer ball around in the afternoon, the girls wearing thin coats. I didn’t bother to wear a coat at all. It was a good rain that softened the soil and made weeding easier, loosening roots without weighing down the plants. I saw in my garden yesterday new green shoots – some seeds I planted months ago, and one dahlia are beginning to grow after this weeks sprinklings.

Sounds though like this dry summer was “terrific” and “excellent” for the vineyards…can’t wait until another winetasting party
