Just finished watching the men’s US figure skating championships televised live, or almost live from Portland, OR (yes, wish we were there, except for the winter weather!). Johnny Weir defended his title with a graceful long program that received a number of perfect 6.0 scores. Afterwards, when asked how he was able to hold up under pressure, Weir responded that he went into his own world. Oh, did I mention that the camera shots of Weir warming up off the ice showed him wearing the trademark white iPod earphones, obviously tuned into someplace else? A walking or rather, skating, advertisement. I joked with Ted that Johnny Weir could make commercials describing how the iPod helped him win the national championship…it’s an idea…as if iPod needs commercials more than the glimpses of someone like Johnny Weir using one.
