On CNNmoney this morning M&M’s in black and white
Candy maker plans to eliminate colors temporarily during marketing contest….
NEW YORK (CNNfn) – In a marketing gimmick reminiscent of the gold ticket in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” M&M’s will run a contest in 2004 which will offer six grand prizes and for a brief period offer the world-famous candy in only black and white.
Yesterday I noticed the new M&M packages while shopping at the grocery store and I figured it was a marketing gimmick. I like to use the candies to decorate birthday cakes – that’s about the only time I buy them! – and I remember a couple years ago when I bought a few bags to use to make a doggie cake for a girl we know. Back then M&Ms were doing a different color promotion, including new colors such as pink, turquoise blue and purple in the packages. I liked those new colors – they were a lot of fun to use. I think I used them for the dog’s collar. But I’m not sure about black and white?! Maybe I should pick up a couple packages anyway for future fun: they might come in handy for some cake or cookie creativity….
