Elisabeth’s at the stage where she thinks it’s cute and funny to run away from me. She discovering her freedom, seeing how fast she can move her little legs. Today she toddled away from me down the ferry aisle, still wearing her plastic orange bib. I get a bit frustrated: I do want her to stop when I say “stop”. That’s important to learn. But I do think it’s cute and funny too. I confess I’m enjoying her antics, suppressing giggles as I run to retrieve her.

About running away – today we were at Mount Vernon, George Washington’s gorgeous home with a breathtaking view over the Potomac River. Anyway, the kids disappeared across the laundry yard, through a gate in the stone/brick wall and into Martha Washington’s kitchen garden. We strode to retrieve them…although it felt very safe, peaceful and comfortable at our first president’s lovely farm. Greetings from Washington’s place to Washington state!
