I avoided a double stroller as long as I could. When my second child arrived, I used my backpack with the single stroller. It worked for a while. Until I got pregnant with Elisabeth. But by then even Michaela was a good walker. I knew though that it would be difficult to keep track of three young children without a double stroller.
I don’t use it that often. It feels so huge. It’s difficult to manuever. I feel like I’m a bus driver. I’m very much a Mom With Many Kids when I push that thing around. The stroller announces on my behalf: Here She Comes! Aisles seem especially narrow. I sometimes bump into things as I turn corners. Getting it in and out of doors can be a challenge.
But the double stroller has helped me to be mobile. I don’t know what I would have been able to do without it. It’s given me a good perspective on what it is like for those who need some assistance getting around. I’ve had to accept help. I’ve been learning to let others open doors for me. I’ve been learning how much little acts of mercy and kindness can mean to me.
