I liked it the first time

March 23rd, 2004 · No Comments

With Ted away, I’ve been playing the radio more. A habit I learned growing up, I suppose. I like music when I’m lonely.

I don’t listen to the radio much. But since the weekend I’ve had it on for hours a day. The same station. Friday I heard a song I liked. It was new to me. I thought, That’s a hot song: it will go places. I couldn’t wait to hear it again.

Three days later, I feel I’ve heard this song too many times. The radio seems to play it once an hour some nights. Funny how I can like something the first time. Love it. Crave it. But stick it in my face all the time – or rather, echo it in my ears enough – and I quickly grow tired of it, weary of its melody.

If you find honey, eat just enough – too much of it, and you will vomit. Proverbs 25:16
