Listening to a Seattle classical music station one recent Saturday morning, I began to laugh. Another Victoria Clipper ad was on the air, with it’s familiar refrain. I have heard these spots often enough to ignore them. But the new marketing strategy made me laugh. I learned that it is now possible to take the Clipper to Canada for the Flu Shot Special Package. Are there no other reasons to travel across the border other than vaccinations? Is the only attraction Canada has to offer the fact that flu shots are available? Fresh angle, perhaps, for a tired radio ad campaign, but I think they could employ a better strategy other than illness – or the fear of it – to entice people to travel.
I believe there must be a better reason to visit Canada this winter. I believe it enough that I’m planning to be there in February with my whole family. No flu shots on our agenda. Only lots of discussion and fun….
