Like a cool drink of water when you’re worn out and weary
is a letter from a long-lost friend.
Yesterday Lenn Pryor wrote a post on Blogs, Links, Old Friends, New Friends … The Power of Connections, describing how blogging has brought new friends into his life and also connected him with pals from the past :suddenly Rob is back in my life after 10 years..
A few weeks ago, a friend whom we haven’t seen in almost a decade sent me an email, after finding me through my blog (via a search engine, I think). He had some sad news to share: another friend of ours from our time together had died. But he also wanted to tell us some exciting news from his own life, and sent a couple photos as documentation.
Yet another reason to have a blog, or at least a presence on the Internet, I thought, grateful for his contact and updates. I was amazed that this “old” friend could find me, and that we could share both sorrow and joy together, miles apart. In years past we probably would have been lost to each other, and I might never have learned about our friend’s death or been able to see pictures of his wedding and beautiful bride.
Like Lenn, I’m enjoying the new friends I’m meeting. (I’m glad I got to talk to Lenn a bit at BloggerCon: we discussed island living.) And I’m also grateful for the friendships that have been revived through the writing on-line in posts, blogs and comments…
The girls and I this week have been studying the proverb I posted above (Proverbs 25:25 MSG). I hope and believe that blogging may be giving much-needed cool drinks of water…I know I’ve been given a few 🙂
